Are You Listening to False Doctrine?

Many people have ideals and opinions about a lot of things. There are many doctrines and food for thought out there these days. Everybody is a relationship expert, and many may be single and never even been married. Everyone thinks they know how to raise children whether they have them or not. Everybody seems to be a finance guru but may be barely making ends meet.

Everybody seems to have religion or the thought that there is no God figured out. Especially the thought that the universe is the source. With all this being said what does God’s word say about accepting false doctrine because it sounds good?

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth and be turned aside to fables” (2 Timothy 4:3-4).

“Thus says the LORD of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They make you worthless; They speak a vision of their own heart, not from the mouth of the LORD” (Jeremiah 23:16).

“Until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. That we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ” (Ephesians 4:13-15).

If we look at these few scriptures even for those who say the bible has no relevance in today’s society, we see that it truly does still have relevance. In Second Timothy we see Paul illustrate that there is a time where people will not endure sound doctrine. He goes on to express that people will want to hear false teachings that make them feel good.

He also expresses that it is because they want to feel justified in what they are doing. This is what we see in society today. If I can justify it then it’s okay is the mindset of people now.

This is one of the main reasons the world is the way it is today. No one wants to hear what is just, moral, and upright. Also, people are not even concerned if what they are hearing is true or not. They run around telling what they have heard whether it is true or not.

Then we look at Jeremiah an Old Testament scripture. We see that God warns of false prophets. He warned about this danger in the Old Testament and the New Testament and it still holds today. A prophecy should confirm something for you or what God has told you.

Also, once someone has claimed to have had a word from God there should be an indication that what you heard is true and not false. This scripture emphasizes that often people are speaking from their hearts and not the mouth of God and that is vanity or worthless doctrine.

Lastly, let’s look at Ephesians which is addressed to the believer. The believer should be equipped with biblical understanding, experience in the faith, godly principles, and sound teaching. We know that today many believers are not equipped with this. When believers are not equipped with these tools, they leave room for the enemy or people to influence them. They can easily become tossed around with all sorts of false teachings that do not line up with the word of God.

I do not know what your belief system is. You may be a believer, or you may not. One thing is true for sure; the world today is full of false doctrine. If many of us are not careful we will make a fool out of ourselves. This is dangerous and should not be taken lightly. Everything we allow ourselves to hear, believe, and see should be moral and just. Unfortunately, we live in a world now where people are afraid to take a stand on what is right.

We are cowering down at the unjust things of this world and letting the truth become a lie because we will not take a stand. This was once a saying when I was growing up “if you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything”. The word says it this way “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20)

Also, beware of the content you consume regularly. It is common today to scroll on any device for hours. There is no control of what pops up. There is some very ungodly content that influences us whether we know it or not. Some content can make you start to be fearful of things around you and it can be fear-mongering. Also, there is a lot of explicit content on social media today. There is no censorship with it, and this is dangerous. For this reason, be careful this has become a new form of false doctrine.

I hope this message finds you well. I encourage you to start being careful about what or who you listen to. It is important and it can affect your mindset. It can be the reason you are not where God wants you to be. The company you keep is just as important as the doctrine, theologies, or information you consume, listen to, or watch on a regular basis.
