“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14).
Jesus tells us to seek the narrow path because the wide path leads to destruction. Jesus understood the value of being on a path led by God. The wide path is where we can fall prey to the enemy and the influence of people being led by the enemy.
Living for God is not optional though people think it is. We have free will to choose what path we want. The problem is that the wrong path has consequences that can lead to destruction or cause problems in our life. These problems can cause us to stumble and struggle to overcome them.
The blessing is that every day we have the option to choose narrow or wide. We are blessed to be able to get back on the path. There was a time in my life when I did not understand how valuable it is to live for God. It does not mean you will not have struggles, face sickness, loss, grief, etc. It does mean that God walks with you through it all and there are blessings along the way.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16).
How do we have guidance for godly living? We have God’s word, seasoned saints, and when we become saved the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We take for granted the importance of godly counsel, and daily study of God’s word. We lack an understanding of the value of godly fellowships that edify, mature, and guide us to the destiny and purpose God has for us.
So many people straddle the fence in their walk with God. They want to have their foot on the narrow path and wide path. The truth is you cannot serve two paths. God did not say that the narrow path of godly living would be smooth and easy. He did guarantee that in the end, the narrow path was the way to live.
When we become saved the enemy does not like it. The enemy does everything he can to try and get us to compromise in our walk with God. The enemy uses distractions and people influenced by him to try and cause us to stumble or be spiritually chained up.
Living a godly life changed everything for me. It came with heartache and pain but as look back it didn’t feel good but, it’s beginning to work out for my good (Romans 8:28). God gives me hope every day to choose the narrow path no matter the challenges that come. God has restored my life from abuse, neglect, homelessness, financial burdens, etc. The brokenness from it all still needs healing but thank God for the progress He allowed me to make.
This is what God does on the narrow path. Jesus gave us the path to take because it’s important to the outcome of living our purpose and destiny.
Godly living is the way God intended for us to live. Jesus rose with all power so we could rise above our struggles and enjoy life. Always remember to live for God no matter the cost.
