The Ministry of Jesus

The definition of ministry in today’s society means so many things to different people. Ministry is about serving people with obedience and a duty to God. For any ministry to grow and have a lasting legacy you cannot leave God out of it. In any ministry, the needs of the people you are serving should be put first.

The needs of the people should be above money and any personal gain. Many leaders start ministries and lose sight of God and meeting the needs of the people. They become prideful and driven by money and personal desires or gain.

Oh, what a ministry Jesus perfected! There is no doubt that Jesus’s ministry supersedes any ministry on Earth. Jesus was in his thirties when His ministry began. He led by keeping God first in everything He did in His ministry. He spoke about who God was and he lived and breathed his ministry by the word of God. Jesus always sought godly counsel and was obedient to the call on His life. His anointing was evident in everything He did. In every miracle Jesus performed, He led with meeting the needs of the people. He silenced criticism at every turn.

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people” (Matthew 4:23).

Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, the son of Heli”, (Luke 3:23).

Jesus understood the call on His life and with godly wisdom He never lost sight of that. It was in everything thing He did. The lessons He taught His disciples were based on godly principles and understanding. He was bold and stood against criticism by responding with the Word of God.

Jesus knew His calling was for the captives He came to set free. He was criticized for coming for and seeking those who could not help themselves and could not offer anything in return.

Jesus’ ministry is a great example of how to have a ministry led by God. We should consult God in our personal endeavors and any business or ministry. Ministries struggle because leaders take God from the center. Leaders become driven by money and greed. Some see this as success, especially when they get notoriety from the world. “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul”? (Mark 8:36)

We live in a time when money is the driving force behind starting a business and doing business. Due to this being the foundation the needs of the people get lost. Jesus’s example of ministry is the model we should strive for as believers.

As we prepare to celebrate the Risen Savior may we remember His ministry. May we embody living out Jesus’ great commission to preach the gospel to the nations and make disciples filled with the Holy Spirit.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been gjven to me, Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
