“Then the King will say to those on His right hand, Come you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was in prison and you came to Me” (Matthew 25:34-36).
“Then the righteous will answer Him saying Lord when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?… And the King will answer and say to them, Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me”… (Matthew 25:37-39)
Many dispute whether eternity is just a fairytale. They also dispute whether the bible is relevant today. I won’t argue either point but I will say this; “believing in God has not hindered my life in any way”. It has added to my life. It has been a way to press through the obstacles in my life. It has made life worth living by believing in God who is bigger and so much greater than this world we live in.
How does this tie into serving? Your value in serving others depends a lot on how you see serving spiritually and from God’s perspective. When Jesus said, “And the King will answer and say to them, Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me” He is letting believers know when you serve those in need you are serving Me. In essence, serving with a humble heart and with pure motive is serving unto Jesus. Jesus paid it all so we would not have to. He served multitudes on the road to the cross. He did it because Jesus understood the value of serving others.
As believers is important that we honor God with our willingness to serve others. Jesus served with love and compassion. He came to the broken and relieved them of their ailments through miracles and their faith in His power to heal them. Jesus came to the lost and those who needed a special touch from Him.
Serving people is about serving unto God. There are services that we may do for our livelihood or to earn a living. God understands that we must have money to survive. There are other services that God honors when we help those in need. God calls us to bear each other’s burdens when we have the resources and capacity to do so. Serving others is an act of service to God. He honors it and rewards us for serving with a humble heart.
We are not among billions of people just to exist. We are among billions of people to serve. There will always be someone in need. There will continue to be a need to serve in various capacities. God keeps giving people a heart to serve His people and to relieve the suffering of others. Sometimes our own suffering produces the desire to serve people in similar circumstances that we have overcame. Whatever need you are fulfilling do it unto God for He desires our duty of service.
No matter what life brings or how hard life becomes we must remember our duty to serve. We serve because Jesus served us with His death on the cross and His resurrection to be our High Priest today. Serving is not a lowly duty it is a high duty because it takes a humble, kind, and gentle spirit to put the needs of others before our own. That is no easy task. It takes a special person to serve in that capacity.
When you serve, you are serving for the Kingdom!
