Broken Self-esteem (A Poem)

I wanted you to tell me I was enough

I wanted you to tell me I was free from the chains of my past

I wanted you to tell me I looked good no matter what I wore

I wanted to look at you in the mirror and feel good about you

I wanted you to help me be confident

I wanted you to allow me to feel whole

Who are you?

My self-esteem

Abuse broke you

I’ve spent many years trying to rebuild you

These are the issues of self-esteem shattered by abuse and trauma

The day I lost you, you were forever tainted by the horrors of my childhood

This is…

Broken self-esteem
