Fall in Love with God

Many of us fantasize about falling in love with our husband or wife quite often over the course of our lives. How often do we think about how good it is to fall in love with God? Some people view God as being so distant from all we go through. Others feel God is never present or does not exist because of the way the world is. So many people feel He allowed this or He allowed that so why would I believe in Him, serve Him or even trust Him?

Let’s see who God is in His Word…

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

“For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You” (Psalm 86:5).

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me” (Jeremiah 29:11-13).

These scriptures show us that God loves us, cares for us, and has good plans for us. It also shows us that He was willing to send His Son to die for us in our place because He loved us. He is a forgiving God. He is a God who understands the struggles we go through. God redeems us every day. You have to lose yourself and allow your flesh to be crucified daily to follow God. It is not easy and none of us are perfect in it. We grow gradually and it is meant to be that way.

Falling in love with God is no question for me. He is the center of my life. Yes, there have been times when I was angry and frustrated with God. I know now that even in my frustration God understood. God is so good to us. In the rough patches of our lives, He sustains us and keeps us going.

Fall is a time of year when we feel cozy under blankets, and it brings us cooler weather to enjoy. We feel a sense of peace as we prepare for the year to end. Falling in love with God gives us peace that God is our source and our strength. Learning to lean on God allows Him into the places of our lives we want Him to change for the better. This is when we have stopped running from God and understand that we can do nothing without Him.

I remember when I learned that God would always be there no matter how hard I thought I could run away. I also remember when I learned I did not have to run from God because He was the answer to all my problems. He was the refuge I needed when everyone else failed. He is the constant unwavering God that always remains the same. I may waver, but God is the solid foundation we can build on.

I love the idea of falling in love with a significant other or for me a husband. I also understand how I can love a husband if I have not valued falling in love with God. “Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment” (Matthew 22:37-38). This is not an option folks. It is a command. It is not just a blog post I am writing either. I want people to know loving God changes everything. When you love God, it changes you. It helps you to love others the way you love God.

Whatever you do in this life, do not miss the opportunity to fall in love with God.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength (Deuteronomy 6:5).
