Don’t Walk in Judgment

There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you (James 2:13).

“Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven (Luke 6:37).

For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you (Matthew 7:2).

Many people think that have the right to judge and condemn others. Some people are self-righteous enough to believe that because they are Christian, they have judgment rights. This is a form of pride. None of us have a right to judge because none of us are perfect.

Yes, we will see the faults of others, but please remember that all of us are struggling to grow in various areas of our lives. Just because you climb a mountain in one area doesn’t mean you are mature in all areas of your life. We all have a lot of growing to do as we age.

“Do not judge, or you will be judged. For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but fail to notice the beam in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ while there is still a beam in your own eye? You hypocrite! First take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye” (Matthew 7:1-5)

Many of us are blind to our faults but seem to be able to point out the areas everyone else needs to work on. To be honest we all struggle with ignoring the beam in our eyes but trying to get the specks out of everyone else’s eyes. You can lose close friendships pointing out the struggles of others all the time. It is not wise, and it is very damaging to relationships. We all have a little struggle with this. When it becomes a common practice to see the wrong in others but be blind to your own faults or struggles that is a major problem.

There is no way for us to believe that when we judge God is pleased if our judging behavior are affecting others in negative ways. If you think that you are equipped to bring others down and think you are above others, you are wrong. When your judgment of others causes them to feel low self-esteem that is ungodly. It can cause people to see Christians as judgmental and it can hinder their walk with God. Many people stay out of church because of the way Christians judge. This a major problem in bringing others to Christ.

We should walk in love and build others up in the faith. We should strive to be a walking light to others. Leave judgment in its place with God. We will all see the faults of others and there is a time and a place to bring guidance and support. The areas we see that may hinder those we love we should seek wisdom from God for how to have an impact. Also be willing to leave them in God’s hand. Experience is the best teacher for all of us.

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:14-16).

Let us be a light to others and give them grace to the see their faults in their timing. Let us allow God to work on them while He is working on us.
