For you formed my inward parts; you covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well (Psalm 139:13-14).
So, the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he was a beautiful child, she hid him three months. But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank. And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.
Then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river. And her maidens walked along the riverside; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it. And when she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So, she had compassion on him, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”
Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”
And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” So, the maiden went and called the child’s mother. Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So, the woman took the child and nursed him. And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son (Exodus 2:2-10).
We have a divine and appointed assignment. There is a road that is already carved out for us. We see it in these scriptures. God created us for greatness. God knew some people would be of a wicked nature, but He allows it as we see in scripture a lot of times.
Nothing that happens in our lives is a surprise to God. Some would raise the question “why does God allow the suffering and the bad?”. I have no answer for such a divine question. I ponder that question just like everyone else. Some people believe He is nonexistent in the suffering, feeling deserted and loneliness we feel, but this is untrue.
This tyrant king in these scriptures sought to do all the Hebrew boys harm and utterly kill them in their infancy. There was something about the woman that bore Moses and his life was spared in the womb. There is also something about God, because He has a divine plan for our lives when we are in our mother’s womb. There is nothing that can come against it. Even if our own mother despises us, God will still find a way to finish and complete the assigned plan that He has for our lives.
It is time for many of us to stop worrying about what did not work and what has happened to us and focus on how far God has brought us. God is constantly digging us out of the pits we find ourselves in. It is true that from birth God was molding and shaping our lives. God is not a puppet master, so he won’t force us into what He has for us.
We know this because many of us realize in the latter years of our lives the potential we may have missed and where God wanted to take us. There is regret for some of us and we begin to see where we missed God. Though this is true God will still finish what He had in mind. God allows us to step back into His purpose. What has God called you to do? It is a question worth pondering.
The enemy sought Moses’ life early on. That same enemy starts early in our lives too. We often do not have peaceful beginnings, but God is still faithful to us no matter what we face. He was faithful to Moses and He formed us in our mother’s womb knowing what would occur in our lives. God is not surprised by how our lives unfolds but He won’t force His will on us.
No matter what you feel will not work God says, “You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you” (Philippians 4:13). God had the plan from the womb. God knew you would deviate off path, but He wants to re-route you back on course.
The generational issues we face when we come into this world are because those before us made mistakes or did not understand the value of change and stopping negative cycles of the ancestors before them. There used to be a saying “if you don’t know your history you are doomed to repeat it”. We don’t use this phrase much now, but it still holds relevance.
It started in the womb so now what will you do? Will you keep the narrative you are accustomed to in your lineage? Will you break free and do what God has called you to?
You may not be Moses, but we all have come into this world in some unfortunate circumstances that have been hard to outgrow. The things we face or have faced are not impossible to overcome, but we cannot do it alone. The same village children need adults need as well.
All things are possible with God no matter what kind of lineage you were born into (Matthew 19:26). You can change your story for your family and those that will come after you. You can change it just like Moses did leading the Israelites out of bondage.
It started in the womb, but it can end with you…
