This week was a hard one for me. Life really does seem and often feel like its beating you down like the ocean’s tide beating against the shore. It is nothing we do right that makes God still love us unconditionally.
This week I wondered and thought about some of the same embedded roots that I am still trying to overcome. I thought I didn’t measure up, or I was not deserving of forgiveness, and lastly, I was separated from God. I felt my life was not what He wanted in this season.
As a heavenly Father would say He said to me” I am not upset or mad at you, despite what you feel I am proud with how far you have come and how much you have changed”. I thought I came far, and I changed, but God it does not feel like it.
Then He began to remind me, of my old ways compared to my new ways. I started to look back and realize that I was growing but the growth was hard. It is hard like the changes that go on in our mother’s womb as we grow.
God’s word teaches us that nothing can separate us from the love of God. In Romans it illustrates this; “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).
We must keep this in mind. The world around us will have us to believe that our faults, mistakes, mishaps, and struggles separate us from the love of God. This is not true. This does not mean that you can act and behave anyway you want to. Impure motives and intentional faults and acts against others can cause us to reap negative things. Everything about this journey as a believer is about the heart.
God is always measuring us by our heart and motives. He sees the things we can hide most which is the impure thoughts and motives that can hinder the outcomes we face. This still does not separate us, but it can cause a negative impact.
God is not a God of separation. He is a God of redemption. He is the redeemer. Though there are things about all of us that can hinder our progress, it does not cut our connection with God. Some people believe, as I thought years ago, that every wrong mistake God takes a break from loving us.
We also may believe that we have to do something to get that love back but this is false. God knew us when we were formed in our mother’s womb (Psalm 139). He is not surprised by anything we do. We may be more surprised by our actions than He is because He knows us very well.
Growth and change are uncomfortable. If you focus so much on what you want the change to look like and represent you can forget all the progress, you are making along the way. I have changed so much from my much younger years of life. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like it. We all have moments where the old creeps back in, but we must keep moving forward no matter what we may be facing.
Sometimes we need to look back and see how far we’ve come. The process of God working in us can seem like we are getting away from Him. We are maturing and He is allowing this process to unfold. We also need to understand that God is a redeemer. We are imperfect but God still loves us anyway. Also remember this the bad that has happened to you in this world is because of our adversary the enemy.
I have experienced every form of abuse and they are rough memories to carry around. God gives me the grace to understand that even that will not separate me from His love. Though those people did acts against me I am still wanted and loved by God. I don’t blame Him anymore. I made my peace with that. I know that it can be hard for many to have peace but give it time and do not close yourself off to the healing. God wants to do so many amazing in your life.
Lastly, nothing can separate us from the love of God.
