Letting Go

Letting go is hard to do. The greater the hurt the harder it is to let go and become free. We become liberated when we choose not to hold on. It can keep us stuck. Our past can keep us from doing what God has called us to do. God intended for us to be free. Jesus went to the cross for our freedom. “Therefore, if the son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36).

Let’s see what the word says about letting go.

Ephesians 4:31-32 “Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

I was holding on to my past and wanted to be free. I prayed about being free but continued to hold on. I cried to be free but still clung to my past. In the final days of packing up my apartment, my sister and I made amends that was liberating. I was able to forgive her and the other things I was holding on to.

The point I want to make is, I became sick, carrying my past around like luggage. I am no longer holding on. Your situation may be different from mine, but I want to encourage you to let it go.

Philippians 4:13 “Brethren I do not count myself to have apprehended, but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead”.

I have to make a conscious choice to forgive every day. We cant erase our past. We still have memories that will last a lifetime. New issues will happen. Offenses are apart of life. I want to help someone to understand that reaching forward is liberating. Reaching back to the past is bondage. The best thing to, do is to let it go.

Letting go of the past is everyday. Holding on is bondage. Forgive and loose yourself from the chains of bitterness, grief, unforgiveness, and let go.

You can’t do it alone.

There are support groups, therapy, telehealth groups, community groups, local church, social media groups etc. You need an outlet. Don’t stay stuck in your home. It can become a prison to your past and pain.
